Do Not Save the Princess is a short story in my upcoming novel of short stories set in the world of Kingdom. It describes the unfortunate events following a young man named Lyken after he saves Nor’s hated princess. Even the princess herself doesn’t appreciate the gesture.
You may have noticed that the main character of Do Not Save the Princess is mentioned in an earlier story within Kingdom’s Advent. Coal in Rose and Coal mentions Lyken by name. As all the stories are set in the same world within roughly 4 years of each other, it’s not entirely surprising a few of the characters have crossed paths. For example…
Planet visits Soro’s Well on the way to the Inn of Five which is the same watering hole where Radiance meets Roger.
The main character of Abandoned befriends Gretal who has a significant connection to another story in the collection (no spoilers here). Gretal mentions a friend at the end of the story. The friend appears elsewhere in the book too.
Coal mentions Lyken to Rose. Lyken, the main character of Do Not Save the Princess, is running from assassins hired by Coal’s mother, Madame Faye, after he refuses to carry out one of her commands. And if you read between the lines of Abandoned, you’ll likely know what Lyken did to cross Madame Faye.
Lyken mentions Exile where Valencia lives. He also refers to Madame Faye by name.
If you like the stories and characters in Kingdom’s Advent, you’ll find other stories that tell more stories of the heroes of the book. For example…
If you want to read more about the mysterious Princess of Nor, Helga, you should read check out Neither Fish Nor Fowl.
If you would like to discover more zany adventures of the Animal Brothers, pick up The Dwarf’s Report and The Dwarf’s Report 2.
If you’re curious about what happened to Roger after he entered the army, you should read Things We Keep.
Happy reading!
