Below is the illustration for the front cover of the sequel to Kingdom Come, “On Earth, As It Is.” Notes beneath.
The cover is an original work of art by Daniel Johnson aka @Artisticknack. It follows the tradition of the first novel in depicting a scene from the novel as well as featuring five main characters from the novel. The artist and I worked on many of the details here: dresses, expressions, references, etc. So while the illustration details a particular scene in the book, it also suggests other elements incorporated into the rest of the novel.
I will not reveal details until a future post when people have had the chance to read the book, but will answer a few questions that I don’t consider spoilers.
What is the frame around the picture? Author: The characters are actually in a mirror.
So we’re looking at their reflections? Author: That is, unfortunately, a spoiler.
I recognize some of these characters from the first novel. Author: Good.
But there are elements in the picture that don’t make sense. Author: Yup.
There’s a smudge on the face of the lady on the back left. Author: Look closer.
Is this the only illustration in the book? Author: The book will contain a map and a small image on the back cover, much like Kingdom Come.
I never read Kingdom Come, but I get the gist of the story that it’s about fairytale princesses. Are those the fairytale princesses in the picture above? Author: You should read Kingdom Come. But if you don’t before the second book is released, worry not. “On Earth,” stands nicely on its own. Oh, and the princesses are queens in On Earth, As It Is. By the way, did you notice I didn’t answer your question?
Last question, you’re asking too many questions which may spoil the story.
I like that shield in the background. I wish I could zoom in on it. Author: Your wish is my command. Art again by Daniel.
